Tackling Alzheimer's Research: Bridging the Gap in Preclinical Models
Alzheimer’s research has long been hindered by inadequate preclinical models, particularly the over-reliance on 2D animal-based systems, which fail to replicate the human brain's complexity. This limitation often leads to drug failures in clinical trials. Newer 3D microfluidic platforms, like BMSEED’s microelectrode array (sMEA), offer a more accurate model that mimics the brain’s natural environment. These platforms allow researchers to study critical interactions between neurons and glial cells and simulate the effects of traumatic brain injuries (TBI), which are linked to Alzheimer’s progression. By addressing these key pain points, this technology promises to accelerate drug development and provide more effective treatments for Alzheimer’s.
